Meena Kumari is the daughter of Ashok Kumar born to a courtesan played by Meena Kumari again. Brought up by her aunt she ends up as a famous tawaif in Lucknow. Raj Kumar who is Ashok Kumar’s nephew meets her accidentally in a train and they fall in love. Bound by the life that she is forced to lead and unable to forget her love Meena gives a splendid performance. The songs by Lata Mangeshkar are a masterpiece and are still memorable. One of the famous trivia about this movie was while filming the song ‘Chalte Chalte’ Meena was suffering from very high fever but there is no way one can find that out while watching the movie. Meena looks as alluring as ever! Kudos to her professionalism!
